The school accommodation is to the west of the site, with the community facilities to the east and the shared-use hall between. There are separate enclosed play areas for both nursery and playgroup children.

Accommodation: School - seven classrooms, nursery classroom, two resource areas, learning support room, library, general purpose room, staff accommodation, main hall, kitchen, toilets.

The roof tower feature conducts sunlight into the school to enliven the circulation area.

The front elevation faces south with the classroom wing running from north to south. This layout maximises the benefits of natural light.

The new school was built to provide a new primary school in Strathpeffer to replace village schools at Fodderty and Contin.

Also, to provide accommodation for community activities taking into consideration all age groups and abilities.

Community Centre - committee room, community room, activity room, community officer's room, kitchen, fitness room, showers, toilets.

The building was designed as a single-storey structure to limit the visual impact on the village of Strathpeffer. The materials used were carefully selected to blend in with the neighbouring conservation area. External finishes have been designed to be low-maintenance.

Pupils took the first eight of the photographs and parents and friends the others. Most of the information in the captions was taken from the special booklet printed for the Formal Opening Day on Friday 1st December 2000.

The building is of timber framed construction ,finished with traditional slate roofs and roughcast walls

It is a balance of old and new with proportions and form reflective of tradition, but with some contemporary materials and detailing. This is a picture of the timber roof being worked on.
