Pan Ross History

The history of Ross and Cromarty dates back to the earliest time. Some of the communities have archaeology dating back to their earliest ancestors. D. Macdonald published a history of Ross-shire in the 1930s and the society is grateful to his great-niece, Miss Isabel MacMaster of Dingwall who has loaned a copy of his book for access on this website.
Read Bishop Forbes Journals to find out about Ross and Cromarty in the late 18th century. While the 1st and 2nd Statistical Accounts of the Parishes of Ross and Cromarty reflect life across Pan Ross in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The area also has a proud military tradition of providing men for the Seaforth Highlanders in both the Great War and the 2nd World War. You can also read the diary of Patrick Munro of Foulis which provides a vivid account of military life during the 2nd World War. I hope you enjoy reading about the long history of this area.
