Strathpeffer Heights Heritage Exhibition Sept 2001

In September of the year 2001, a group of 'Heights Folk' worked together to mount an exhibition in the Achterneed Hall, Heights, Strathpeffer. It was an outstanding success. The photographs from the Heights Heritage Exhibition have been divided into several photograph albums to make it easier to view.

Mr Ivemy
Mr Ivemy
This photograph does not relate to Highland Games but was taken by keen photographer T Wellwood Maxwell, Strathpeffer, and depicts a Mr Ivemy who dressed up for this picture; apparently he neither wore the kilt nor played the pipes!

This photograph was titled "Bodachs (Gaelic: old men) at Strathpeffer Highland Gathering 1925". The gentleman third from left was Sir Hector Munro of Foulis, Bt., Lord Lieutenant of the County and Convener of Ross and Cromarty County Council who probably would not have welcomed the title bodach!

Strathpeffer WW1

Strathpeffer WW1

The photos in this album are from the Ross-shire Journal during the 1914-1918 War. Newspaper copies had been deposited with Dingwall Museum but over the years had become rather fragile and were in danger of disintegrating and so it was felt that this valuable record should not be lost.

The war memorial photographs on this site were originally the work of Mr John W Bruce. He has subsequently developed the website http://www.rosswarmemorials.org.uk which gives much more detail.
