Police Stations

Since the introduction of the Police , there has been a presence in the village. With the first Station and home being in the centre of the village.

A more modern building was built in the 20th century, but has long since been sitting unused for many years. 

Now in 2024,moves are being made to possibly sell the property.

Public Hall And Caledonian Bank C1906

Public Hall and Caledonian Bank, Muir of Ord. Postcard is franked 14 July 1906 and is addressed to Mrs Mackenzie, Ardross Place, Inverness. 

Also within this picture, we can see one of the various buildings owned by the railway company, that were referred to as ‘Station Cottage’

Schools

Before 1875, the children of the area were educated by the church, with the more intelligent and those that could afford it, being sent to school in Inverness. The following link will take you to the history of the school buildings that remain in the village today.

Urray House Care Home

Urray House Care Home on the southern outskirts
of the village on the A862.

The former Urray House care home, now demolished but has been replaced by a new unit in its grounds on the road to Beauly. The new Urray House Care Home provides nursing and residential care.
