Urray House Care Home
The care home was built and managed by Highland Council since the late 1970’s.
By the turn of the century, the home was listed as needing major revamping to maintain national care standards. Highland council took the decision to privatise six care homes in the area, with Urray House being amongst them.
The Highland Council’s Housing and Social Work Committee agreed that Parklands Highland Ltd would deliver new care home placements in Highland. This involved building and operating new care homes on the Council-owned sites in Muir of Ord and Tain providing residential and nursing care in 34 en-suite bedrooms, with the opportunity to extend to 40 bedrooms in future.
The proposal was that Parklands Highland Ltd would lease the two existing care homes, at Urray House, Muir of Ord, and Duthac House, Tain until the new care homes were completed and ready for occupation by autumn 2014.
Designed and completed by Stuart Dallas whilst a director at Young & Gault Architects, the buildings were constructed by Roberston Builders with Turf cutting ceremonies being held on 29th July, 2013, with Urray House resident, Ann Harding having the honour of the first cut.
Urray House was designed with a central foyer where much of the group activities and entertainment take place. There are three separate wings where residents can retire to a Quiet Lounge, or the Dining Room. A Salon and Family Room are also available for the use of residents. . Renewable technology was also with biomass heating being provided.
Building was completed in April 2014 and was by officially opened in September 2014, by Janet Bowen, the then Lord-Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty.
Residents and staff at Urray House later welcomed HRH The Princess Royal when she visited and toured the care home on 27th July 2017.
The old care home was subsequently raised with 23 new housing Units being built on the old site following a Highland Council consultation in April 2017. (Drover’s Court)
