Muir of Ord Commercial

The photographs on this page are a small selection of the type of commercial properties that are, or have been, in Muir of Ord.  Please visit the photo album at the bottom of the page for more photos.

Banking

Banking flourished in Muir of Ord manily due to the busy monthly livestock markets. Originally the banks only opened on a monthly basis in the cottages at Market Stance. However, with the economic growth of the village, larger premises were established.

The Commercial Bank of Scotland went onto become the Royal bank of Scotland and the Caledonian Bank of Scotland became the Bank of Scotland

Hotels

There have been three known hotels in the Muir of Ord area, two of which have been around since the late 18th century. Tarradale Inn is probably the oldest establishment with the Ord Arms soon after. The Station Hotel was not established until the late 19th century after the railway hade arrived in the village around 1865.
