Shortly before their marriage in 1934, Duncan and Catherine claim to have had a sighting of the Loch Ness Monster. The creature was quite far out in the water which was very calm, and they could clearly see a long neck and head. It was making its way up the loch towards Fort-Augustus. The wake was described as being around 50 yards in size. They watched the creature for around twenty minutes before it turned and submerged. Duncan continued at the grocer’s shop following his father’s death in 1938.
