Mackenzie's of Caber Feidh
William and Isabella had twelve children: Ann, Elizabeth, Margaret, Alexander, Kenneth, Donald, Jessie Jane, James & twin (Thomas), Isabella, Mary, and Thomas; ten survived in to adulthood.
Annie was born in 1866.
Elizabeth was born in 1869 and died in London in 1919.
Alexander was born in 1868 and died in infancy in 1870.
Margaret was born in 1871. She never married and worked as a masseuse whilst living at Fife Lodge, Strathpeffer. She died in 1939.
Alexander was born in 1873 and took a trade as a carpenter. He was married at the Queensgate Hotel, Inverness in 1907 to Jamesina MacDonald from Redcastle. He died in 1940.
Kenneth was born in 1875 and followed his father as a stonecutter. He married an Elizabeth MacKenzie at Fodderty in 1913. Before he died he was also recorded as a Milk delivery man. He died at Killearnan in 1950.
Donald was born in 1878 and his trade was a mason. He married Rebecca Paterson of Hughston in 1909. Donald was living in Cromarty at that time. He died at Killearnan in 1933. They had three children, two dying in infancy.
Jessie Jane was born in 1878 and died aged 13 in 1891 of Pnuemonia.
James was born in 1880 and became a carpenter. He was married in 1908 to Catherine Cameron of Crown Cottage.
Thomas was born in 1881 and died a year later.
Isabella was born in 1882 and marries Finlay Charles Edward MacKenzie in 1920. Isabela was recorded as being a Masseuse. They lived at Bellevue, Strathpeffer. Isabella died in 1957 and Finlay in 1968 at Rosskeen.
Mary was born in 1884 and was married at Fife Lodge, Strathpeffer, to Arthur Bill . Mary was a masseuse and Arthur a groom. They were married in April 1914 and by August Arthur was signing up to active service. Their address at this time was Melton Mowbray. By 1939, Arthur was a stud groom at a stable at Ploughley, Oxfordshire. They had three children. Mary died in 1961 at Oxford.
Thomas was born in 1886 and served as a soldier in the 1st battalion of the Scots Guards where he attained the rank of Serjeant. He was killed in action on 29th October 1914. He has no known grave and is remembered on panel 11. Of the Menin Gate at Ypres, Belgium.
The majority of the family are buried at the Killearnan Parish Church, Redcastle.
