War Records - This is an ongoing and lengthy part of Ross and Cromarty Heritage. If you have any additional information concerning anyone listed, or who should be listed, in this part of the site, please get in touch with your information. Photographs are particularly welcome and would be scanned and returned promptly. Photographs and information may be sent by e.mail to rchs@maryburgh.org.uk
Important Correction:
It has only recently come to the attention of Ross and Cromarty Heritage that the photographs of each memorial and the lists of names were the work of
Mr John W Bruce, Dingwall.
In subsequent years, and since this section was uploaded to the RCHS website, additional material has been added and acknowledgment made of other contributors.
It is appropriate, therefore, that Mr Bruce be given the credit and thanks he is due as originator of this work, and particularly for the time and effort he devoted to its production.
September 2010
Additional note, March 2018:
The information in this section is as prepared by Mr John W Bruce some years ago. Since then Mr Bruce has developed a most impressive website - www.rosswarmemorials.org.uk - and while Ross and Cromarty Heritage Society wishes to continue to show Mr Bruce's original work, it is only proper that those seeking information should be directed to his more detailed website. |
In 2018 Highland Council embarked on a project to refurbish war memorials across the region in advance of the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War. Mr Alf Leslie was appointed project co-ordinator and supervised work on the following memorials in Ross and Cromarty.

In addition, Dingwall Royal British Legion members in association with the Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Janet Bowen, and other community groups, refurbished part of the memorial adjacent to the National Hotel.
