Wester Loch Ewe Community Collage

Wester Loch Ewe Public Buildings

Inverasdale Primary School

Inverasdale Primary School is situated between Poolewe and Cove in Wester Ross. There are thirteen pupils in the school (at March 1999), divided between its two classrooms. Other facilities include a staffroom, a technology room and a dining room that is also used for P.E., music, school parties and concerts. Every year the community holds a big Christmas party in the school. In 1997, parents, pupils and community members worked together to turn a large area of rough ground in the playground, into a football pitch.

[Contributed by Mrs. Ross, then Head Teacher.]

Since Mrs Ross wrote as above the numbers at Inverasdale declined and in 2012, with only two pupils on the roll, Highland Council closed the school and "mothballed" the building.

Moving on to 2015, the Wester Loch Ewe Trust was awarded a grant from Awards for All towards the aim of achieving community ownership of Inverasdale School building in order to establish a community centre with exhibition space.  The grant of £10,000 would enable the Trust to secure the services of an architect to plan options and costs for renovation of the building and redesign of the interior.

NB:  The section which follows would appear to be a project by pupils of Poolewe Primary School and, although written some years ago, is worth reproducing.

Computer work.

This is our Apple Mac computer.  We play games on our computer and we sometimes write our stories.
[Ella McDonagh, Primary 1, Poolewe Primary School.]

Primary 4-7.

I took a photograph of Primary 4-7 in their classroom.  They were all busy working. There are 19 pupils in P4-7 and 11 pupils in P1-3.
[James Macbride, Primary 3]

The drama lesson.

The children are doing Drama with Mrs Nimmo.  We have lots of fun pretending to be different people.
[Tom Hardman, Primary 3.]

The classroom shop.

We like to dress up and play in our shop which is a fruit and vegetable shop.
[Ella MacDonagh, Primary 1.]

The library area.

This is where we like to look at books.  My favourite book is "Not now, Bernard".
[Rebecca Macbride, Primary 1.]

Music lesson.

We make lots of music with our musical instruments.  Mrs Macdonald shows us what to do and then we practise it for the next week.
[Lewis Martin, Primary 2.]

The playground.

We have a big playground with lots of trees in it.  We play skipping with a big skipping rope, football and we are practising for our sports day at Aultbea.
[Amy Mitchell, Primary 2.]

The dining room.

This is a photograph of the dining room where we have our lunch.  My favourite lunch is burger rolls.  The lunches for Inverasdale School are also cooked here and are taken to the school by car.
[Steven Mackay, Primary 3.]
