Lady Bignold cuts the first sod of the Muir of Ord to Cromarty railway line on 13 February 1914.  The line was eventually constructed from Muir of Ord to Fortrose but financial restraints due to the First World War did not allow the extension as far as Cromarty to proceed.

The embankment, near Spitalwood, of the Muir of Ord/Cromarty railway.  Most of the former track has disappeared under farmland but it is possible to walk along the old track from Muir of Ord to Redcastle and from Avoch to Fortrose.
